Three Flooring Choices for Your Closet
Remodeling the floors in your home can be a time-consuming and expensive endeavor. And with it comes choices. Whether to choose carpet or hardwood or even tile can be both a distinctly personal decision and one made with the value of the home in mind.
One area of the house that may seem to get short shrift but can be remodeled to look as good as the rest is the closet. Closet solutions is an area of remodeling that focuses on those places that people in your home won’t spend much time in. Closets are usually thought of as just places to hang coats or put shoes. However, one quick Internet search may prove you wrong. A closet can be special. It all starts with the flooring.
When it comes to flooring in your home, it’s important to see it as blending a personal love with a material that will last a great deal of time and add to the investment of the home. Here are three materials to think about whenever you’re thinking about closet solutions, or about any floor at all in your home.
Carpeting
Carpet accounts for 51% of the total U.S. flooring market and in 2012 made up 37% of industry sales. Carpet is considered a textile with an upper layer called a pile attached to a backing. While pile used to be made out of wool, modern materials are generally synthetic fibers like polyester.
Carpet has many benefits compare to the other two materials. It is less expensive and comfortable to walk on. In the winter, carpet will feel much warmer than hardwood floors or tile. On the other hand, it is incredibly tough to clean. Some feel that carpet can never be fully cleaned.
Hardwood
Hardwood is sustainable. According to a 2008 report by the U.S. Forest Service, the net growth per year of hardwoods is greater than the removal. Further, natural wood flooring can last for up to 100 years.
Hardwood has numerous benefits. It has the “awe” factor when compared to carpet. It is easier to clean and if damaged easy to repair. The downside is that hardwood can be difficult to install and that it is more expensive than carpeting.
Tile
Tile may seem an unusual choice for a closet but it contains many benefits. Tile is very durable and can last a long time. Ceramic and porcelain, for instance, are known for their durability and long-lasting qualities. There are many different options when it comes to color and pattern. And it’s healthy.
Tile is healthy because it is fired in kilns before reaching the store (and you). The temperature burns out any dangerous or unhealthy compounds, which can help you preserve the air quality in your home.
Closet solutions can run the gamut of different options. When it comes to flooring, these three options should give you a starting point for your next project.
