%3Cbr%3ERunning a business can be difficult at times. Have there ever been times that you’ve wanted to give up? If so, how did you end up overcoming this?%3Cbr%3E
Unfortunately yes, there have been days I wanted to give up. I take great pride in what we do, to the point where I am thinking about the business and how to better ourselves every minute of every day. There are days when my wife says to me, “Can you please just take a break from work for one hour!” I work hard, and there are days where you look at the bank or you look at the sales for the last month and it’s just not there. I wonder at those moments, what am I busting my hump for if there’s nothing to show for all the hard work? Its very frustrating to be all in with your business and not be where you think you should be. %3Cbr%3E
How I overcome this is very simple, although it does not come right away. What I do is get up and do it again and again and again, everyday until it changes. I will try new things, call on clients I have not heard from in a while, ask for advice on how to be innovative in my field. I don’t give up. There is one constant in business, and that is change, and if you decide to resist it you may go down. So we roll with the punches and let God take the rest.%3Cbr%3E
What’s the most frustrating part of things these days?%3Cbr%3E
The most frustrating part is time. In the lock and safe industry there is what I call the ‘now’ factor! People usually do not wake up and decide to call a locksmith. When things go wrong that is when our customers call us, and they want and need it now! The frustration is that there are days where we just can’t get to everyone that calls. We want to help all that call on us for help and service. We have scheduled calls and emergency calls, and everyone is equally important. %3Cbr%3E%3Cbr%3E
We are constantly in contact with our customers and working them into the schedule as best we can. Houston is a big city, and there are unexpected turn and twists with each job and each distance we travel. The frustration is always there a little, but at the end of the day when all is done and the customers are safe and secure, we know we did our job!%3Cbr%3E
Frustrations and setbacks aside, running a business can also be very rewarding. How would you describe your best day as president of A2Z Houston Locksmith?%3Cbr%3E
My best day as a business owner was the day I realized that we were growing and achieving success! You never know when you go into business if what you’re doing will actually survive. In the Locksmith industry there is a lot of competition, especially in a big city like Houston. It was important for us to concentrate on being honest as well as providing excellent work. I received a call for a lock installation and re-key, the customer was full of questions and we had answers for them all. %3Cbr%3E%3Cbr%3E
At the end of the conversation it came down to price. Bottom line is we were higher than the previous company he had talked to. This is when the moment happened. He explained to me that he was willing to pay the higher price, due to the fact that we were much more knowledgeable and pleasant to talk to! It’s a good day when you see that knowledge and honesty still go a long way.%3Cbr%3E%3Cbr%3E
